Shoe Features and Biomechanical Effects: The basic principle of the Western Shoe is set back at the toe with the widest point of the foot used as a guideline for the center of the joint. Western Wedge shoe has a 3º angle to raise the podotrochlear apparatus (PA) and all-around bevel to reduce the leverages.
Therapeutic Effects: The main function is to relieve the breakover to all directions and release tension in the deep digital flexor tendon, thus reducing stress on the distal sesamoid (navicular bone). The 3° wedge can be used to correct negative palmar angle.
Indication: The Western Wedge is indicated to treat deep flexor tendo injuries and to correct negative palmar angle
