The Mustad City Head Creaser is a forging tool designed to create perfectly angled grooves (fullering) in hand-forged horseshoes to accommodate flat-headed nails such as City. Unlike the E-Head model which is for square-headed nails, this version is optimized for U-fullered shoes commonly used in North American shoeing styles.
Key Performance Features: Dual-Hardness Design: The working edge is hardened for extreme durability and a long life cycle, while the striking surface is left slightly softer to prevent damaging your forging hammer. Air-Hardened Steel: The head is forged from specialized air-hardening tool steel. CRITICAL CARE: Never submerge the head in water to cool it, as this can cause the steel to crack or become brittle. Optimal Forging Temp: For best results and tool longevity, it should be used at low forging temperatures between 1,112°F and 1,292°F (600°C – 700°C). Customizable Handle: It comes with a hardwood handle (often Hickory) secured by a ring wedge, allowing for easy replacement or customization to fit your grip. Ambidextrous Use: The head can be easily turned over on the handle for left-handed farriers.
